This week's produce recall touching several national grocery chains has reached Walmart's fresh, pre-packaged house label.
Walmart Just Recalled a Marketside Product in 34 Stores

A massive produce recall has just been expanded to include a ready-to-eat product sold in Walmart’s grocery section.
It started on November 28, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that SunFed Produce, LLC, a Rio Rico, Arizona-based company, had recalled all sizes of whole fresh American cucumbers. The affected cucumbers are believed to be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can cause mild to severe symptoms of food poisoning.
The cucumbers, which were grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico, and sold between October 12 and November 26 at Costco, Wegmans, Walmart, Albertsons and various other retailers, have been implicated in a broader Salmonella outbreak. To date, there have been 68 reported illnesses and 18 hospitalizations linked to the case, a separate FDA report says.
Now, an updated December 4 notice says that Walmart is expanding its recall to include Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices, which were cut from the whole fresh cucumbers involved in the initial recall and subject to the same contamination concerns.
Salmonella is the bacterial organism behind salmonellosis, a food-borne illness which can cause mild or severe—and sometimes fatal—infections. Young children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems who become exposed to Salmonella are at the greatest risk of serious or life-threatening illness. Symptoms typically show up between six hours and six days after exposure to the bacteria.
“Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain,” the FDA wrote in its report. “In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis,” the health authority added.
The original recall spanned 26 states and Canada, but Walmart’s update is focused on one state in particular. According to the FDA’s update, the pre-cut produce was available for purchase in 34 Walmart stores in the following Texas locations:

- Canton
- Commerce
- Dallas (four locations)
- Forney
- Frisco
- Garland (two locations)
- Gilmer
- Greenville
- Kaufman
- Lindale
- Longview
- Lucas
- McKinney
- Mesquite
- Mineola
- Mount Pleasant
- Murphy
- Plano (two locations)
- Princeton
- Quinlan
- Rockwall
- Rowlett
- Royse City
- Sachse
- Sulfur Springs
- Terrell
- Tyler
- Wylie
The items are packed in clear plastic containers topped with a white printed sticker, bear a UPC code of 62969, and have an average unit weight of 1.5 pounds. Consumers who believe they may have purchased Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices should take the following precautions:
- Check the packaging to see if you have in fact purchased the recalled items.
- Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled product
- Clean and sanitize surfaces that could have come into contact with the recalled product to reduce cross-contamination
- Throw away or destroy the tainted produce so that it cannot be consumed by someone else
